You can check your credit report, also known as a credit file disclosure, for free online using several different websites. There are many companies online that you can use to check your credit report for free online. Some companies will try to charge extra fees for additional services, so read the fine print when choosing a website.

  1. Step 1

    There are three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies. The three companies are Equifax, TransUnion, and Experion. You are allowed a free copy of your credit report online from each of these credit reporting companies every 12 months.

  2. Step 2

    Choose a website to check your credit report. Look around this page for a sample of several online companies that will allow you to view your credit report for free. Choose one that does not ask you to sign-up for a subscription that you have to cancel or pay for in the months to come, or that has any fees attached. You should be able to check your credit report for free.

  3. Step 3

    There are three ways you can request your free credit report. You can check your credit report by looking at it online, request a paper copy in the mail, or request your free credit report by phone.
