Natural tips to treat diarrhea

There are over the counter medicines, but I like to treat simple diarrhea naturally.
I will share these tried and true remedies with you that a doctor recommended to me.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Diarrhea is frequent loose stools in a manner which is uncommon to your usual bowel movements. If diarrhea occurs in children, this can help until you get to the doctor, unless there is an allergy to what I am stating. Diarrhea in infants under 4 should see a health care provider or go to the hospital within 4 hours of the onset of diarrhea to prevent dehydration. Simply because of their small body mass, children tend to be quickly affected by diarrhea especially if accompanied by vomiting and fever.

  2. Step 2

Recipe to reduce diarrhea is easiest to remember by the word BRATTY. The "B" stands for bananas. They can be mashed or eaten whole like the monkeys do, but with no sugar added. Do not give the entire banana all at once. One tablespoon at a time, will be better than a whole banana at one time. The intervals for giving banana can be as often as 1/2 hour.
"R" stands for rice. White rice is better than brown rice in this instance. Nothing is to be added except small amount of sea salt if the diet allows for sodium. Do not add milk, only use water when cooking the rice. Think a tablespoon at a time to make sure the white rice will stay down.
"A" is for apple. Peel and core any kind of apple. Slice and give small portions of plain apple slices at short intervals if tolerated.
"T" is for toast. White bread made with unbleached flour is preferred. Use no spread on it. This means no jam, jelly, margarine or butter. Dry toast can be even burnt if a person likes burnt toast. The burning of the toast might absorb some impurities in the stomach and be passed on to the intestines. The next "T" is for Tea; cold or hot tea. "Y" is for yogurt. Only small amounts at a time. 1/2 teaspoon every 15 minutes if the person holds it down you can increase that amount to 1 teaspoon every 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

The BRATTY diet is to slow down the diarrhea not to completely restore the body to optimum health. This is to treat simple diarrhea to remedy the discomforts of this condition, temporarily.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not let untreated diarrhea linger for more than a day at home, in adults, before contacting your health care provider.
  • Do not let untreated diarrhea in children be unattended by a doctor for more than 4 hours.
