House training a puppy has mystified people through the ages of time. It is quite simple and easy. You just need to be on your toes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Treats and patience
  1. Step 1

Take one puppy and your beautiful home and you've got issues. First, get out some very small oat o type treats. Think of the word that you will use to explain what you would like your dog to do outside.
Mine is hurry up. You can use go potty, go wee wee or whatever you like.

  2. Step 2

Take your dog outside and wait. As soon as you see them going to eliminate; use your word. "Hurry up," and offer them a treat as soon as the last drop falls and give them calm praise.

  3. Step 3

Take your new puppy out at least every 20-30 min. Go out with them because you must treat as soon as they go. If they don't go after a long while make sure you supervise well or put them in their contained area. Take them out again in several minutes. Make sure to use your word so they are learning to go on command.

  4. Step 4

You are only allowed to offer feedback about them going in the house if you catch them. And being that you are watching them 100% of the time; right? You will have caught them in the act so to speak. A loud clap and AHAHHHHHH should be enough to stop the flow and calmly take them outside. There you will wait for them to finish and reward. Go in and clean the mess without your puppy in tow.

If you did not catch them in the act; smack yourself in the forehead because you weren't doing your job.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your puppy tries to fool you that they went just to get the treat; wait them out. They'll soon learn that they can't fool you.
  • Never, ever hit your dog for messing in the house. It is our job as guardian to teach them and that requires patience. Don't forget that this whole world is new for your puppy.
