Cheese fondue is a fun alternative to a traditional dinner when having friends over. It’s also fairly inexpensive, and there are tons of dippers to choose from!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 oz Monterey jack cheese, shredded
  • 4 oz Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 4 oz Camembert, rind removed
  • 2 TBSN cornstarch
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 TBSN kirsch (optional)
  • ½ TSP salt
  • ½ TSP freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ TSP freshly ground nutmeg
  • Your choice of dippers (suggestions below)
  1. Step 1

In a large Ziploc bag, place the shredded cheese and cornstarch. Toss to coat. Set that and the camembert cheese to the side.

  2. Step 2

In your fondue pot or a large saucepan, bring the wine and garlic to a simmer. I just put my fondue pot directly on the stovetop to do this. Once this is simmering, add the shredded cheese a little at a time and stir to combine. Then add the Camembert and stir to combine. Add the salt, pepper, nutmeg, and kirsch, and stir to combine. Kirsch is a cherry liquor that is traditional in cheese fondues. However, if you don’t have any, your fondue will still turn out great.

  3. Step 3

Put a candle or fondue flame under the fondue pot, following the instructions on the box for safe handling. Hand out your fondue forks and enjoy!!

  4. Step 4

There are lots of things you can dip in your cheese, such as: crusty flavorful bread, broccoli, asparagus, fingerling potatoes, mushrooms, pretzels, sliced green apples or pears, spicy sliced sausage, cubed ham, sirloin strips, sliced zucchini, pearl onions, or any of your favorite veggies. Keep in mind that most veggies should be blanched so that they are tender-crisp for eating.
