Things You'll Need:
- Baseball card sleeves
- Pocket pages
- Albums or portfolios
-
Step 1
Buying the pack of cards is just the first stepAfter buying the baseball card packs I strongly suggest having a specific system in place to take good care of those cards so they will be worth more in the future. Getting into a system of buying the cards and knowing precisely where they should go is very helpful.
-
Step 2
The first must have for baseball card supplies is baseball card sleeves. These are the individual sleeves and are typically called penny sleeves. These sleeves simply hold one card and protect a card from scratches pretty well. It is important to note however, that if you have a particularly valuable baseball card a top-loader is a much better option. A top-loader holds a thicker card such as a game used baseball card or an autographed card and protects the card not only from scratches, but also from being bent on any of the corners.
-
Step 3
After getting penny sleeves for the individual cards it is now time to get pocket pages. These typically hold 9 cards on each page and can be put in albums or portfolios very easily. A penny sleeve will fit inside these, but a top-loader will not.
-
Step 4
A nice example of a baseball card albumWhere are you going to put all these cards? I suggest having a baseball card portfolio or baseball card album sorted however you like. There are several efficient ways such as sorting them by year, make, or by player's last name. I think it is also a good idea to have an enclosed portfolio or trapper keeper that will zip up for your most valuable baseball cards.
-
Step 5
Once your baseball cards have all the proper supplies protecting them I suggest having a specific baseball card storage area in a room in your home. Do not just throw these down on the floor in any random area where they can be damaged. Make sure your cards are worth something in the future!
-
Step 6
Where do you find these supplies? The good news is there are multiple places to find these things. Any office store has nice albums that can be used, but you'll have to look online or in a baseball card hobby store for things like penny sleeves or top-loaders. It will certainly be worth your investment!
