Step 1
Pick a spot. Whether it is in your bedroom, basement, sitting room, or other area of the house, be sure it is a place that is spacious enough for your yoga mat.
-
Step 2
Create a peaceful environment. Ensure that your yoga spot invites calm and relaxation. Clear any clutter and keep the space free of anything distracting. The emptier the space the better.
-
Step 3
Time it right. A quiet house is the best atmosphere to practice yoga in your home so pick a time when the kids aren't running around (nap time, bed time, or early in the morning before everyone wakes up).
-
Step 4
Incorporate nature, if possible. Do you have a room that has windows looking into a wooded area or other beautiful landscape? If so, create a yoga spot there.
-
Step 5
Buy a yoga mat and props. Go online or to a sporting goods store and buy a yoga mat and any props you like to use (bands, neck rolls). Keep them in reaching distance so they are always ready for a session.
-
Step 6
Buy books and DVDs. Go online or to a bookstore and purchase yoga books and DVDs to get you started with your yoga practice. Yoga Journal magazine is another option that is filled with poses for the beginner or ametuer. If you have Comcast On Demand, you can also find free yoga workouts there.
