Build a Home Library
Build a Home Library

There's nothing better than having a space in your home where you can kick back and enjoy a good book. Here is a simple way to build a home library in a weekend and with minimal cost. Read on.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick your spot. You don't need an entire room (but if you have one, great!) in which to build a home library, even the corner of your living room, family room, basement, or sitting room is perfect. Consider flanking your fireplace - that's always a nice spot.

  2. Step 2

Get shelves. You can use a bookshelf that you already have or get something very inexpensive at a thrift store to be refinished. When I built my home library, I bought 4 bookshelves from an unfinished furniture store and had them attached to an entire wall in my living room then painted white. They held over 320 books!

  3. Step 3

Make it cozy. When you build your home library, you are building a retreat. Include a comfy chair or couch with a throw blanket and an end table for your cup of coffee or tea. You want to escape to your library to relax and regroup.

  4. Step 4

Stock the shelves. This is the fun part. You could go to a bookstore, of course, but that would be expensive. My favorite place to shop for books is Goodwill and thrift stores where you can find paperbacks starting at 25 cents each and hard covers starting at 50 cents each.

on 2/25/2009 Does it count if every corner of your house is covered with books? To me, that's very cozy. I love my books. I like your stile. I look forward to reading more. 5*
