How to Pick a Cell Phone Plan

Choosing a cell phone plan can be difficult especially if its your first time getting one. Don't get sucked in with all the bells and whistles you don't need.

  • All of the major cell phone companies are very much the same. Find one that's is convenient to you. I find it helpful to have a store close by in case of problems that might arise.

  • Find out how much talk time per month are you going to use? How much do you think that you talk per day then multiply by 30, that should give you an estimate on what to look for. Do you only talk to a few people? Then find a plan that gives you unlimited calling to a select few people. That will cut down on your overall anytime minutes. Or if you talk to a large amount of different people maybe you might want an unlimited plan. Going over your allowed minutes is where they really rack up the bill.

  • You don't have to sign a contract for 1 or 2 years. They do give you a free phone or discount, but if you are unsure of how long you will stay with this company then don't sign a contract. You can buy a decent phone for $100 bucks without a contract.

  • Do you text or will you text with new phone? Text can be 15 cents each text and can add up quickly. Again how much texting will you do per day then multiply by 30 to give you estimate for how much texting you will need. Add a plan that will fit to reduce cost.

  • Will you need internet on your phone? Do you really need internet on your phone? The cost to add internet is very pricey. You may think its fun and cool for the first month, but the cost is a lot.
