How to Remove Wax Buildup on Furniture

This is the only way I have ever found to get wax off of furniture. It will definitely remove most of the wax, but I cannot guarantee it will remove 100% of it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Highly absorbent, preferrably disposable cloth of some kind
  • A source of heat, the safest being a hair dryer
  1. Step 1

First you need to place your absorbent cloth on the waxy area. If you can stretch it across the area so that it's somewhat tight against the surface that's even better.

  2. Step 2

Next you apply heat to the affected area, being careful not to have your hands to close to where you're heating as this may result in burns. This melts the wax and allows the cloth to soak it up.

  3. Step 3

Repeat step 2 until there is either no way left or until the cloth you're using is no longer soaking any up. Remember that each time you repeat this, use a different section of cloth so that you're not putting the wax that you've already removed back onto the piece of furniture.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more absorbent the cloth the more likely you are to remove more wax. Those super absorbent towels they advertise on TV will likely be able to get 99% if not all of the wax off. I have not tried this with paper towels, but they will probably work.
  • Also remember to remove the cloth before the wax sets again, thet will just give you a piece of cloth stuck to your furniture.
  • Please keep your hands clear of the heated area, I don't want anyone being burned by my advice
  • Stop applying heat as soon as the cloth starts to absorb the wax, reapplying only if it starts to harden again. Constant heat can cause damage to furniture.
