Although most people need allergy relief in spring, winter also triggers a runny nose and itchy eyes, particularly if you’re susceptible to allergens like pet danger or dust mites. Get winter allergy relief by making a few simple changes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wash your bedding more often (try once a week) in hot water to eliminate dust mites. You can also get winter allergy relief by adding covers designed to prevent dust mites to your pillows and mattress and using anti-allergenic laundry detergent.

  2. Step 2

Vacuum often to eliminate dust mites and pet dander. Get additional allergy relief by using a vacuum with a HEPA filter. Change the filter often and change the vacuum bag before it’s full.

  3. Step 3

Use an antimicrobial dehumidifier to keep the humidity level below 40 percent to get winter allergy relief. Keeping the unit away from area rugs and upholstered furniture may reduce mold and dust mites. Also battle mold for allergy relief by using a mold retardant spray on areas that are frequently damp, like bathroom tile.

  4. Step 4

Avoid using a wood-burning fireplace since the ash and smoke can boost your allergy symptoms. If you must use one, get winter allergy relief by cleaning up the ashes immediately.

  5. Step 5

Be conscious of allergy relief as you decorate for the holidays. Clean decorations and artificial trees before putting them up since dust and mold build up in storage. Get allergy relief by avoiding irritating artificial snow on your tree. If you buy a live tree, shake it to eliminate potential allergens.
