    the most common and the most expensive consumer scams in the country today are credit card scams. for example an advertisement for a guaranteed loan or credit offers. credit repair promotions, insurance against charges on stolen credit cards, all promised in exchange for an advanced fee.

  2. Step 2

    false claims that the victim has won a lottery or a sweepstakes or other prize offers and that the supposed winner has to pay to collect. the average looses is between two thousand and five thousand dollars.

  3. Step 3

    never act on any offer that is unsolicited and requires you to make an upfront payment to an organization or person you do not know. another scam is people posing as legitimate contractors that prey on property owners after a hurricane or disaster. verify names and their track records with the homebuilders association and your local better business bureau.
