Welcome to the world of hairbows! There is no such thing as just a "bow" anymore. Now there are korkers, basic, layered, stackable, and many more. Today I am just going to write about how to get a bow to stay in a bald baby's hair (or on her head).

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The most obvious way to let your little girl wear a bow is with a headband. The great thing about headbands is you can clip any bow to them. You can purchase a basic white headband and change the bow with each outfit. There are two types of headbands for infants (there are more for toddlers).

  2. Step 2
    Small elastic band

    Small elastic band

The first type of headband is the basic elastic headband. This is the most popular, probably because it is the easiest to make and to find. People who sell these for six dollars a piece are making a killing. You could buy an entire roll of this elastic for next to nothing. The downside to elastic bands is that they are normally narrow if you don't make your own. This makes them perfect for small bows, but not so good for larger bows. The narrow elastic bands also tend to leave marks on the baby's head. This could also be because my children have HUGE heads.

  3. Step 3
    Nylon band

Next we have the nylon band (basically, pantyhose). This is my favorite of the headbands, because you can make them narrower or wider depending on what you need. They are also less likely to leave marks. I bought 5 of these with huge matching bows for only ten dollars on EBay.

  4. Step 4
These stuck so well my husband wore them around the house just for you guys. Now we know where my children get their gigantic heads from. :)

Lastly, you can just glue the sucker in. I've done this quite often. All you do, is find teensy tiny bows and stick them on with K-Y jelly or hair gel. I've heard some people use toothpaste, but that seems a little harsh to me. I like the K-Y because it is water based and washes off easily. You will be surprised at how well it sticks. I found lots of tiny bows on things like little socks, cards for my daughter's baby shower, and even attaching price tags to her clothes (Carter's does this a lot). You can buy bags of bows made just for this purpose.

on 1/27/2009 Nice article - when I was a baby there were no headband options, and mothers just stuck that bow to your head with tape! ;)
