Things You'll Need:
- Sneakers for hiking trips
- A camera for sightseeing travel
- Map of South England
- Typical travel items for Britain vacations (don't forget an umbrella!)
-
Step 1
Prepare for England HolidaysGet in good physical shape before your England vacations if you are planning a hiking tour. All hiking trips require fitness, since it is a long, and sometimes steep, walk. Walking for an hour or so a few times a week for 6 or more weeks should be training enough for you to enjoy a long hiking tour on your Britain vacations.
-
Step 2
Go Sightseeing Travel to the GorgeCheck out updated information about Cheddar Gorge before planning your Britain vacations to make sure it is open to the public for hiking trips when you wish to go. The last I checked for my England holidays it’s open around 10:00 am to 5 pm (give or take a half hour) every day but Christmas, but safety concerns could cause temporary closures. The official website is here: http://www.cheddarcaves.co.uk/
-
Step 3
Plan your Trip England is BeautifulLocate a map of the town of Cheddar as you plan your England holidays. There is one here: http://www.enjoyengland.com/destinations/find/south-west/somerset/cheddar-gorge.aspx If this website comes down in the future, the gorge is in south England in the town of Cheddar near Somerset, so a web search should help you find another map for your England vacations.
-
Step 4
Use a Bus for Sightseeing TravelGet to the gorge. You could drive there, but because of the traffic patterns, many on Britain vacations choose other methods of transportation. On my England holidays, I went on a coach bus. Buckby's and Hamilton Coach company was offering service to the gorge for hiking trips in 2008. This way you can relax and enjoy the sights of south England your Britain vacations on the way, and even catch a glimpse of Wales if you’re lucky.
-
Step 5
Enjoy your Trip England is ExhileratingVisit the gift shop called "Collector's of Fantasy." This isn’t just to buy souvenirs from your Britain travel to sough England. This is where you can buy your ticket to access the stairs that lead to the top of the gorge to begin your hiking tour. Climb Jacob's Ladder. There are 274 stairs to the top, and a lot more walking after that!
-
Step 6
Go Sightseeing Travel to Cheddar GorgeEnjoy the sights of the gorge! The back of your ticket (and placards around the gorge) have a map that shows the loop around the gorge. Simply follow the signs and the trail. There is so much to see on your trip England has beautiful countryside, and you’ll see lots of it in south England from the top of the gorge.
-
Step 7
Have a great trip England has Great HistoryExtend your hiking tour. When you finish exploring the top of the gorge, there are several caves you can check out. You can learn about "Cheddar Man," the 9,000 year old skeleton during your Britain vacations.
-
Step 8
Get Souvenirs from South EnglandFinally, when you finish your hiking tour, you might want to unwind a little. There are many small shops to get souvenirs of your Britain travel around the area, as well as places to eat. You may want to pick up some of the cheese that the gorge was named for! I hope you have as much fun as I did on your England vacations. For more tips on traveling abroad, please visit the resource links below.
