My children are absolute book addicts! We have heaps of books in every room of our house. Over the past few years we have obtained books in every way imaginable. Now I will share with you the least expensive ways to get books for your child.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library! This is the absolute best way to get free books for your child. They will send your child a free book every month from birth to age five. That is sixty free books! The books are selected specifically for your child's age. The books come wrapped in clear plastic, so your child can see that he has received a book as soon as you open the mailbox. My son always wants to run inside and read his book right then.

  2. Step 2

Visit the "free" section of Craigslist. I have found many listings for free boxes of children's books. All you have to do is pick them up. Score!

  3. Step 3

Check Ebay. Ebay is a great resource for books. We have purchased large lots of brand new audio books for next to nothing. Just make sure you aren't getting gouged on shipping to make up for that great price. I once purchased 140 educational books for only forty dollars.

  4. Step 4

Visit Library booksales. The local library has a huge booksale every year. They sell books they no longer need as well as donated books.

  5. Step 5

Go to yard sales! People practically give away books at yard sales. We buy kid's books for around twenty five cents each at garage sales and yard sales. These sales are also a great place to buy books for yourself. Reading around your children sets a great example for them!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can never have too many books. Kids who live in a print rich environment read early, have better vocabularies, and learn a lifelong love for reading.
