Instructions

    • 1

Make sure you register for well in advance. The CISA exam is typically given twice a year and registration may end over two months before the actual exam. Registration can be done through the ISACA website (http://isaca.org/).

    • 2

Give yourself plenty of time to study. You will probably need 60 or more hours in order to learn everything you will be expected to know for the exam. Don't try to cram it all in at the last minute.

    • 3

Find good study materials. There are several books available from ISACA that will help you prepare for the exam. Many other books are available from other sources as well. ISACA also has a program you can purchase that allows you to take practice exams on your computer. This is good for getting used to the question format and learning to pace yourself.

    • 4

Look into courses. There are a lot of courses around that are designed to help people get ready for the CISA exam. Most aren't cheap, though!

    • 5

Find a study group. It may help to have some other people to study with who can explain difficult concepts and give encouragement. The local ISACA chapter is a good place to find others preparing for the exam.

    • 6

Get a good night of sleep before the test. It is a 4 hour, 200 question ordeal. Make sure you are rested and you have a good breakfast that morning.

    • 7

Show up on time and bring several #2 pencils. You may not be let in if you arrive after the test has started. And yes, the whole test is on paper so you need to bring pencils.

Tips & Warnings

  • The whole test is multiple choice.

  • Don't expect instant results - it takes 8 weeks to get your score.
