Things You'll Need:
- Pen and paper.
-
Step 1
The instructions here are written pertaining to Fire Fox web browser. (It's not the only good web browser and procedures may vary with different browsers). You can write down the things to do to increase your surfing speed. Once you've memorized these techniques, it should only take about a minute or two.
-
Step 2
Select tools at the top of your browser. Select options. Select content. Enable java script and disable java applet.
-
Step 3
Select tools. Select options. Select advanced. Disable auto scrolling, page transition, third party browser extensions, auto image resize, smart image dithering, smart screen filter, and smooth scrolling. Then click OK.
-
Step 4
Disabling active X and flash players, and removing flash players you don't use or need, can possibly avoid computer slow ups, but it's a bit of trouble. This step is mentioned mostly for those, that have no plans of watching any videos. Select tools. Select add ons. Select plug ins. You can right click any flash players listed to disable them. Then left click disable, but this may require restarting your computer for the disabling to take effect.
-
Step 5
When searching for information on the Internet, sometimes reducing your screen to 80% view, will allow you to review web pages without having to horizontally scroll back and forth to read the content.
-
Step 6
If periodic maintenance isn't done often enough, your computer will slow down, over a period of time. To get periodic maintenance started, close all browsers and disconnect from the Internet. Select Start, select All programs, select Accessories, select System tools, then select Do periodic maintenance now. (If you do not have this option, select Disk clean up. After that is done, select Defragment disk).

on 1/25/2009 You'll need flash player 9, or later, installed and enabled on the web browser, you're using, to see friends and mail at eHow.

on 1/25/2009 Now I can sign in to eHow with Firefox, Java Script is needed. But Friends and mail do not come up yet. I think eHow is working on our problems also.
