Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Autumn-fruiting raspberries fruit on the current season's growth, so if the fresh shoots which came up this year produced fruit for you, then prune it as follows.
-
Step 2
Wait until mid to late winter when your berries have lost their leaves or gone icky-looking.
-
Step 3
Then cut down every single stem one inch above ground level.
-
Step 4
If you aren't sure if your berry is summer-fruiting or autumn-fruiting, simply prune out every single cane that has produced fruit. You can tell which ones have borne fruit, because there will be obvious stem remnants where the fruit was picked.
-
Step 5
Winter is also a good time to dig up and move any raspberry plants that have traveled outside of your garden bed. These plants are good and will bear fruit.
-
Step 6
For other kinds of brambleberry such as blackberry and loganberry, simply remove every cane that has borne fruit.
