Step 1
In choosing the right HD camcorder for you, you have a few things you need to answer. The biggest question is, how much do you want to spend. Ask most people and they will tell you that you get what you pay for. This definitely holds true to electronics. So what is your price range?

Step 2
Now that you have established your price range of your HD camcorder we will look at the different kinds of camcorders. The cost will mostly come from the memory of the camcorder. You can choose from a few different kinds of memory. There is the hard drive, flash memory, DVD memory, or dv tape. Each have their benefit, what you really want to consider is how much you will be recording at one time. If you are recording 8 or 10 hours at a time, then a hard drive would be your best option. If you are recording 20-30 minute segments, maybe a DVD would be your best solution. If you are old school and want to keep track of all your recordings you could always go with the tape format.

Step 3
You may now notice that their is a price difference between brand names. Maybe 2 camcorders have similar specs, but there is a $200 price difference. So what's in a name? A lot! Consider the manufacturer of the HD camcorder. Sony is a large box electronics manufacturer with popularity on their side. JVC got their start making phonographs. It's hard to beat a Canon, they are an optics company. They have made cameras from the beginning. Most of your top of the line cameras and camcorders hold the Canon label.

Step 4
Check reviews on camcorders. After you have made your choice, read some reviews. Read online retail reviews, consumer report reviews, Cnet reviews, read up! This may alter your decision, but it will be the best step in shopping for an HD Camcorder. No one knows product like your fellow consumer.
