Things You'll Need:
- Poker chips
- Playing cards
- A handful of friends, anywhere from 2+ people
- Cleared tables for your guests to sit
-
Step 1
First you need to make sure that you have enough poker chips and card decks to cover the number of guests you will have. If you have more than 8 people playing, it may be good to break into tables of 5-6 where the top 1-2 will take on the top 1-2 players from other tables. This way your games will go faster, and it makes for a more exciting elimination process.
-
Step 2
Decide what your buy-in will be, and let your guests what it is ahead of time. A low buy in makes for a stress free game where no one gets overly serious. If you have competitive friends who are good sports, bump up the buy in. Determine your chip denominations before the game starts. It is also a good idea to set up an ante schedule (antes that increase slightly every 15-20 minutes, or, each time a player is eliminated) so that the game will move smoothly throughout the night.
-
Step 3
Liven up your party with music, snacks, or drinks. If you make it a fun and entertaining environment, the people who are eliminated will feel comfortable hanging around to socialize rather than just leaving after they have lost their chips.
-
Step 4
Make it a goal to have a good time. When hosting a poker tournament, you are able to spend quality time with friends, improve your skill at an interesting game, and possibly win a few bucks. It can be cheaper than the movies, and a whole lot more fun.

on 1/25/2009 I like a good time, regardless of the guise getting us all together; this sounds like fun! 5*
