You want to start playing soccer but you are so out of shape you probably wouldn't make it from one end of the field to the other. We have some work to do. We have to get you in shape so you can play some soccer! Let's get to work!

      Get moving

      First we have to get you moving. If you are going to play soccer you have to be able to run for a considerable period of time without collapsing from exhaustion. So get some good running shoes and let's get to moving!

      If you have been inactive for a considerable period of time you will need to slowly work up to running. Start by trying to walk every day for at least 30 minutes. Each day push yourself a little harder. Eventually you should be able to walk for two minutes and run for one minute. Then you can begin to run for two minutes and walk for one and then you can move to trying to run the whole time.

      If you haven't played soccer in a long time you are going to need to work on your soccer skills. You should spend some time just playing around with the soccer ball. Set a timer and spend at least 15-30 minutes a day practicing your kicks, dribbling and passes.

      You are going to need to build up the muscles in your legs as you get in shape to play soccer. Spend some time at the gym lifting weights. Squats are very important! The stronger your legs are the better soccer player you will be.

      Good nutrition and adequate rest are also very important parts of getting in shape. Make sure you are eating a well balanced diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Make sure you are getting enough rest at night.

  • Remember that it took time to get out of shape. You won't get back into shape overnight.
