Bagels are popular food choices for breakfasts or snacks. One can also eat bagels as part of a lunch or dinner. While most people add only butter or cream cheese to their bagels, one can be creative and experiment with different bagel toppings. This article explains how to make a five-cheese bagel. Look for my other bagel recipes in future eHow articles.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • any flavor of bagel, fresh or frozen (I prefer onion or plain bagels)
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • sliced American cheese
  • grated Parmesan cheese
  • microwave (to defrost frozen bagel)
  • toaster (optional)
  • plate
  • knife
  • spices (optional)
  • hot sauce (optional)
  1. Step 1

Defrost the frozen bagel in a microwave for 40-45 seconds. If the bagel is fresh, skip this step.

  2. Step 2

If the bagel is fresh, slice it into two halves - a top and a bottom.

  3. Step 3

Put the bagel on a plate. You’ll be adding ingredients to the bottom half of the bagel only.

  4. Step 4

Spread the cream cheese on the bagel.

  5. Step 5

    Add the sliced American cheese.

  6. Step 6

Add the grated Parmesan cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese (in any order).

  7. Step 7

Put the other half of the bagel on top and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • The amounts of the cheeses can be varied according to your own taste.
  • You can also add spices and/or sauces according to your own taste if you desire. Spices I like to use are basil, parsley, and cayenne pepper, but others would also be suitable. Occasionally, I'll add a tiny bit of hot sauce.
  • You can substitute cheeses if you want.
  • Be sure you know which half is the top and which half is the bottom.
  • This isn't exactly a healthy food option. All of that cheese is full of cholesterol.

on 1/29/2009 Not for those on a diet... but because I'm cutting back I'm just thinking how nice it would taste if you stuck each half under the grill for a minute or two to get the cheese gooey....
