Butternut squash is a wonderful food to feed your baby. It's tasty and contains important vitamins and nutrients. It is also very easy to make and freeze so you can feed your baby a healthy homemade meal anytime. Making your own baby food saves you money and ensures that your child is getting fresh food. Let me show you how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Purchase a butternut squash and take it home.

  2. Step 2

Cut the squash in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and strings.

  3. Step 3

Heat your oven to 350 degrees and place the squash halves cut side down in the pan. Add about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of water.

  4. Step 4

Cook the squash for approximately 45 minutes. To make sure the squash is done poke it with a fork. It should be tender.

  5. Step 5

Let the squash cool for about 10 minutes.

  6. Step 6

Once the squash is cool scoop out the meat with a spoon and place it in a large mixing bowl.

  7. Step 7

Use your electric mixer to blend the squash. Mix it until it is a smooth consistency. You can add water to the squash to thin the squash for a thinner consistency if that is what your baby prefers.

  8. Step 8

Once the squash is blended spoon the mixture into ice cube trays. Cover the trays with aluminum foil and place in the freezer over night.

  9. Step 9

The following day remove the cubes from the trays and place in a Ziploc freezer bag. The butternut squash can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Just thaw the cubes as needed and serve to your baby.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you are using the electric mixer it will remove excess strings in the squash. The strings will get wrapped around the mixers. Just remove the strings and throw them away.
