Antibacterial hand soap and other household products are everywhere. There is common belief among alternative medicine practitioners in the premise that chemical antibacterial products are creating resistant bacteria. More and more, people are looking to save money, be environmentally conscious, and use healthier and potentially safer, personal care products. Here's how to make a natural antibacterial liquid hand soap to add to your skin care routine.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3-5 oz Castille soap
  • liquid unscented soap (optional)
  • Essential oils (tea tree, lavender, pine, rosemary, lemon) Use tea tree and one of the others.
  • Pump style container
  1. Step 1

Begin your natural antibacterial liquid hand soap product by purchasing liquid Castille soap in the natural living or natural foods center. It usually comes in a recyclable plastic container and is brownish in color.

See tips below for an alternative liquid soap to Castille.

  2. Step 2

Add 10 drops of tea tree essential oil and 20 drops of lavender essential oil. Mix into 3-5 oz. of Castille soap. All essential oils have antibacterial qualities, but tea tree is renowned for it's antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-fungal properties. Aromatherapy oils are very versatile for skin care and other personal care products.

See tips below for alternative essential oils to use with tea tree oil.

  3. Step 3

Fill the pump style container with the antibacterial liquid hand soap. Essential oils tend to rise to the surface of liquid soap products. You can keep it mixed by gently rolling the container from time to time.

  4. Step 4

Tips & Warnings
  • For a more convenient antibacterial hand soap; consider using Softsoap or other liquid soap and add your essential oils to that.
  • Pine, rosemary, or lemon are good alternatives to add with the tea tree oil.
  • Always label your products: what it is and when it was made.
