If you have an upset stomach, are suffering from allergies, or just desire a heart-warming healthy drink you will be pleased with this easy-to-make tea.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ceramic Mug
  • Hot Water (from a tea kettle or the microwave)
  • Honey (local natural honey is best)
  • Fresh Ginger Root
  • Half a Lemon
  1. Step 1

Wash the ginger root and slice off four or five one-centimeter thick pieces. Put them in the mug. More ginger will give the tea more kick. Ginger is the ingredient that helps most with unsettled stomaches.

Ginger is a root and is available at most grocery stores. Fresh ginger is firm and bright yellow inside. At the grocery store it is OK to rip off smaller pieces of ginger from larger root bundles to get the amount you want. I suggest buying organic if available and affordable.

  2. Step 2

Squeeze some lemon juice from the lemon half into the mug. The quantity will depend on your taste, I put in about 1/2 - 1 teaspoon. Error on the side of too little because too much becomes overpowering, you can always add more if you want it.

  3. Step 3

Scoop up a large spoonful of honey and put the spoon with the honey in the mug.

If natural locally harvested honey is available it is worth its weight in gold. It contains local pollens which are thought to help your body reduce allergic reactions to them when consumed. Local natural honey is often solid and waxy in the jar, especially if you live in a cold climate. Don't worry about this, just scoop up the honey in a spoon and the hot water will melt it.

  4. Step 4

Heat up water in a tea kettle or the microwave. When the water is hot poor it into the mug aiming the hot water stream onto the honey in the spoon to melt it.

Stir the tea, give it a couple minutes to steep and cool, then enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • The skin on ginger floats, so some pieces may sink or float depending on the quantity of skin. You can peel the ginger first to remove the skin and make it sink. Peeling the skin may also help remove any agricultural chemicals on non-organic ginger.
  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients don't drink this tea.
  • If you have severe or prolonged stomach pain or allergies you should see a doctor.
