Recognize Gallbladder Symptoms

It's not always easy to recognize gallbladder symptoms since many of their characteristics mimic those of indigestion. Here are a few ways to help you tell the difference.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Assess how you feel after you eat. Abdominal fullness, bloating, belching, and gas, especially after eating fatty, fried foods, can be a gallbladder symptom.

  2. Step 2

Pay attention to pain. Pain or tenderness on the right side under the rib cage and pain between the shoulder blades usually points to the gallbladder.

  3. Step 3

Watch your stools. Especially if they are light or chalky colored. This is usually a gallbladder attack symptom so keep a close watch.

  4. Step 4

Keep track of your use of laxatives. If you find yourself frequently using laxatives because of constipation, you could be experiencing a gallbladder symptom.

  5. Step 5

Don't let it get out of control. If you are experiencing the above symptoms at the same time and also feel nauseous and/or dizzy, seek medical advice.

Tips & Warnings
  • These symptoms may indicate other conditions so be sure to schedule an appointment with your physician for an evaluation.
