It is that time again . . . tax time! No one likes filing taxes. If you do your own taxes all the forms and paperwork can be a pain. If you purchase tax software or have your taxes done for you that can also be a pain . . . in the wallet. However, if you meet certain qualifications you may be able to file your federal taxes online for free using free file. Read on to find out more.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Go to www.irs.gov to find the link for free file. If adjusted gross income is $56,000 or less than you can file your federal taxes online for free.

  2. Step 2

    Click on free file icon on the left side of the page.

  3. Step 3

    You will be brought to the Free File Home Page. Here you can choose a tax company or get help choosing a company. Click the button for your choice.

  4. Step 4

    If you choose to find a company you will be given a list of companies to choose from. If you are not sure you can get help choosing a company by answering a few simple questions.

  5. Step 5

    Choose the company that you want to use.

  6. Step 6

    Follow the guidelines for the company you pick to file your federal taxes for free!

  7. Step 7

    Check your sate government web page to see if you can file your state taxes for free.
