Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A strong desire to learn
  1. Step 1

Understand that Cebuano is not a uniform language. It is part of the Bisaya group of languages, and variations exist between standards and pronunciation.

  2. Step 2

Join learncebuanoforums.com. Click on the link in the resource section of this article to visit the forums.

  3. Step 3

Peruse the Cebuano books at amazon.com. The list of books is short, but you may find one that can accelerate your learning.

  4. Step 4

Make friends with people from Cebu. Ask them to teach you some words and phrases. Once you know a few, try them out on your newly found friends.

  5. Step 5

Travel to Cebu. There you can find a few language schools that teach Cebuano (Bisaya). Try attending a school.

  6. Step 6

If possible, while in Cebu try to live for a while in the province, as the use of English is much higher in the Metro Cebu area. If you are in the Metro Cebu area, try to find housing arrangements with locals who don't know much English.

  7. Step 7

Get a private tutor. Generally, this isn't too expensive. If you are abroad, you can get an online tutor, using chat and webcams, by posting on the various Cebu-related forums.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to use the language as much as possible
  • Cebuanos are very fluent in English, so you may find yourself defaulting to English instead of practicing your Cebuano.
