      Measure the rug pad to be anywhere from 1 to 3 inches smaller than the rug it will be going under.

      Using a utility knife or scissors, cut the rug pad to the desired specifications. Don't worry if it isn't perfect, it will still work the same.

      Take the newly cut rug pad and lay it on the floor in the planned location for the rug.

      Place the rug on top of the rug pad. The rug should now prevent slipping when it is stepped on.
