      Download the video without any other software by using Mac's native Safari browser. To do this, open the YouTube page with the video you'd like to save. Once the page has loaded, press "Command," "Option" and "A" simultaneously. This opens the "Activity" window. Scroll down the window until you see an element of about 5MB. Double-click it in the "Activity" window, and Safari will download it. Next, go to the file location and add ".flv" to the file name. It will now open as a video file.

      Install the "Download Helper" extension to your Firefox installation from downloadhelper.net. "Download Helper" integrates itself into Firefox and automatically activates when a video is loaded. Once the extension is installed and you've restarted Firefox, navigate to the YouTube page. When the video has begun to load, click the "Download Helper" icon and select "Download" from the pull-down menu. The video will download for later viewing.

      Open the YouTube video page and copy the page's address. In another tab, navigate to keepvid.com and paste the page address. Click the "Download" button and select your preferred file format from the list of available formats. You will be able to download and view the video file.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most videos will be saved as a .flv file. To play these files, download and install the VLC media player from videolan.org/vlc.
