How to Stay Visible in a Struggling Economy

  1. Step 1

First this is first. If you are looking to become more visible as an organization, join your local chamber of commerce. If you are already a member, great. Call the chamber to ask if they are offering any special programs.

  2. Step 2

Approach colleage about how they are fairing in this economy. Do not use this opportunity as a sales pitch or a way to unleash your stress. Ask a lot of questions and act interested (people can always tell when you aren't).

  3. Step 3

Volunteer at a school. Ask a teacher(s) if you can speak to their class about what you do. This opportunity will not only reach a future workforce, it will most likely make it make to their parents at the dinner table, not to mention a very grateful teacher.

  4. Step 4

Offer a free seminar about the kind of business you do. For example, if your business is a staffing agency, give a seminar about the future of the workforce. The seminar must be something people are willing to spend their time listening to. It cannot be a sales pitch or an extensive history of your company. The idea of the seminar is to gain new contacts and create more visiblity in the community.

  5. Step 5

Volunteer or donate as much time as you can. If your budget allows, donate to a charity or sponsor a charitable event. If your heart is in it, this last step could possibly gain you the most recognition of all. Every volunteer is motivated by something, just make sure it isn't all for self-gain.
