Remove Pet Urine From Carpet and Upholstery

Do you have a puppy, kitten, dog or cat that just hasn't learned that it's not appropriate to use the couch or carpet for their bathroom? Here's a tip on cleaning up the mess but not cleaning out your wallet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

With your dry towel or paper towel, remove as much of the urine as possible with a blotting motion, not rubbing.

  2. Step 2

Mix a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and warm water in your spray bottle.

  3. Step 3

Spray your vinegar/warm water solution on the soiled area and allow it to dry. If the area is too large or you are in a hurry you can use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the excess wetness.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle the baking soda over the dried area then spray your vinegar/water solution on top of the baking soda.

  5. Step 5

With your soft bristle brush, work the baking soda, vinegar/water mixture into a paste and into the soiled area, working it in real good. Let it dry.

  6. Step 6

Once the area is dry the baking soda will return to a powder. Vacuum it up.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the odor is pungent or area is over soiled you may need to repeat the steps to remove all of the odor/soil.
  • Test your vinegar/water solution on a small area of the carpet/upholstery you are cleaning to make sure it does not fade.
