Get Cheap Pet Insurance
Get Cheap Pet Insurance

Four legged, furry friends can be expensive, so it is a good idea to find the cheapest pet insurance for your dog or cat. Cheap pet insurance not only provides you with quality veterinary care, it saves you a lot of money. When you get a new pet, you typically have to vaccinate them several times. If you have a puppy or kitten you can expect several visits to the veterinarian's office, and annually after that. Most pet insurance covers office visits, vaccinations, spaying/neutering and a portion of any surgeries or prescriptions. Cat and dog insurance policies are great to have for regular exams, and in case of an emergency.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pet health insurance works much like regular health insurance. Most pet plans cover basic preventative care for your animal, office visits, and a portion of major medical procedures and medicine. If you already have an established veterinarian, you should call the office and ask if they offer any veterinary insurance policies. While they may not have a cheap pet insurance plan, they may know names of cat or dog insurance providers and give you the contact information.

  2. Step 2

If you do not have a regular veterinarian, stop by your local pet supplies stores. Petsmart offers a cheap pet care insurance program through their in-house vet, Banfield Hospital. I had a dog insurance policy through them and it worked out very well for me and paid for itself almost immediately. Check Petco and any other store that may be conveniently located and see if they offer a pet plan and if not, if they know of any companies who do.

  3. Step 3

Search online! If you are reading this, you are probably searching for dog insurance or some form of pet insurance for your animal. If you are scouring the internet you can probably get several pet insurance quotes. There are multiple companies out there that offer many different pet plans with customizable options depending on the age and health of your pet. If you want to get the cheapest pet insurance make sure you give all of the information on your pet and gather quotes from different companies.

  4. Step 4

Since pet care insurance does work similar to regular insurance, you can sometimes use that to your advantage. Contact several pet insurance providers and gather as many quotes as you can. If you prefer one pet health plan but it is more expensive, call them and tell them you have a cheaper quote from another company. In these economic times the company would probably be happy to have your business and may lower their rate for you so you can get the cheapest pet insurance possible. You have to do your research to get the best rate. Don't necessarily go with the first company you find; if you want cheap pet insurance you have to look around.

Tips & Warnings
  • Call your veterinarian ahead of time and make sure they accept the pet health insurance plan you chose
  • Go over all of the costs and coverage of your cat or dog insurance options before you make a decision
  • Find out what vets the pet health insurance plan covers ahead of time
  • Remember to read the fine print before you commit to anything! Cheap pet insurance is supposed to be just that, cheap. Make sure you understand the coverage.
