Things You'll Need:
- pencil
- paper
- tape measure
-
Step 1
Take your piece of paper, pencil, and tape measure into the room that you are going to make into your nursery. Draw the shape of the room on the paper, and start taking measurements. Write the measurements on the drawing of the nursery, making sure you get the right number on the right wall!
-
Step 2
Pick your colors. If you don't know what sex the child is, make sure the nursery is in colors that will be appropriate for either sex. If you know it's going to be a girl, and want a girly theme, go for the pinks, purples, and reds. If your new arrival is going to be a boy, blues, greens, and tans are great choices.
-
Step 3
When picking out furniture for your nursery, remember that you needs will grow as you child does. Pick a crib that will turn into a toddle bed, and then into a twin. Yes, they are a bit more expensive, but you really do get your moneys worth. Remember, you can paint anything you buy to match the room decorations.
-
Step 4
Lots and lots of storage! Need I say more? Children need lots of storage for clothes, toys, diapering needs, everything. Plan most of the room for storage areas that can be kept organized and neat.
-
Step 5
Don't forget style! Add personal touches, pictures of your family and friends that are important to the child, things that will remind your child of where he or she comes from. A family tree is a neat addition to any nursery.
