Snowboarding over the age of 40
Snowboarding over the age of 40

Snowboarding is not just for the younger generation anymore. More and more adults over the age of 40 are picking up a snowboard and hitting the slopes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The best way to learn how to snowboard is to take a beginners class. Even if your an expert skier you should still consider taking a class. You will learn how to exit the lift, how to stop, how to fall, and most importantly how to control the board. You can take a class at your local ski resort. The best days to go would be when it's least crowded during the week. So take a day off work and learn how to snowboard.

  2. Step 2

First timers should rent the snowboarding equiptment; you will need the snowboard and boots. Just remember to also dress warm. It's highly advised to wear a helmet. If you do not own a helmet, you can also rent those as well. Save buying a snowboard and boots until after you know whether or not you like snowboarding.

  3. Step 3

Practice, Practice Practice. I cannot say it enough. After your first snowboarding lesson you will be on your own. Stay on the bunny hill until you can make it down the mountain without falling and you can maintain full control of the snowboard. Just use good judgement. You will know when your ready for the next hill. At least at this age you should have good judgement by now, so use it.

  4. Step 4

Just because you can ski good does not mean you're just as good of a snowboarder. Remember there are other people out on the slopes with you so saftey is number one priority. Also, you're not as young as you once were so again be safe; follow all rules; and take it slow at first.

  5. Step 5

Just because you're 40 doesn't mean the fun has to stop. Just remember to take a beginners class, rent your equiptment the first couple of times out, take it slow, and practice, practice, practice!

Tips & Warnings
  • Go during the week when it's less crowded
  • Dress warm you will do a lot of sitting down your first couple of times
  • Always wear a helmet
  • Always obey the rules
  • Stay away from icey areas
