Don't worry...your leather will soon be as good as new.
Don't worry...your leather will soon be as good as new.

Your kid did it. OK, it was you...sitting on your nice leather couch writing your shopping list when you accidentally dropped the pen in your hand and marked the leather. Not to worry! A quick trip to the drugstore will make that leather as good as new.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cuticle remover (not nail-polish remover)
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • A clean, dry rag
  1. Step 1

Visit your local drugstore or supermarket and purchase two items (unless you already have them): cuticle remover and rubbing alcohol.

  2. Step 2

Start with the cuticle remover. It is the safest method and usually works. Use the little brush that comes with the cuticle remover to paint a thin line over the ink. Leave it sit overnight.

  3. Step 3

In the morning, wipe with the rag. In many cases, this will remove the stain completely. If it doesn't proceed to the next step.

  4. Step 4

When cuticle remover fails, use rubbing alcohol. Dab some on the rag (just a bit---don't soak it), and lightly swipe the ink spot. Don't use a lot of pressure. Alcohol is drying to leather and will strip the oils in the spot you apply it to, making it stand out from the area around it. If this happens, rub a tiny amount of petroleum jelly over the area to restore the finish.
