1
Cut the fruit to bite-sized pieces and arrange it on a plate:
Banana, apple, grapes, melon -- you name it as long as it's ready to pop in your mouth! You can also cut small squares of pound cake to go along with the fruit. -
2
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler (or substitute):
If you have a double boiler, add water to the bottom and put chunks of hard chocolate in the top pot. The heat from the steam in the bottom pot will melt the chocolate without burning it. No double boiler? Put water in a pot and set a bowl on top of the pot. Put the whole thing on the stove. The steam from the bottom pot will melt the chocolate chunks in the bowl, same as with a double boiler -- just be careful not to burn yourself on the bowl! -

3
Add melted chocolate to a fondue pot (or substitute):
You can pour the melted chocolate into a fondue pot with a can of sterno beneath it OR you can bring the pot and bowl to the table, place it on a trivet, and use that to hold the melted chocolate. -
4
Give everyone a fondue tine or fork:
Put the fruit and/or pound cake on the tine or fork, dip it in the chocolate, and enjoy!
