Yogurt Cheese is a tangy and healthy soft cheese spread which can be used as an alternative to cream cheese on bagels and crackers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A container of plain yogurt
  • Any herbs or flavoring you would like to add to your cheese.
  • Colander
  • Bowl or pot to place under colander.
  • Cheese cloth, clean white kitchen towel, or coffee filters.
  1. Step 1

Line a colander with either a clean white kitchen towel, a few layers of cheesecloth, or triple layers of coffee filters (enough to completely cover the bottom of the colander).

  2. Step 2

Place a bowl or pot under the colander. Make sure that the container is deep enough that the bottom of the colander will not sit in the strained liquid.

  3. Step 3

Pour the contents of the yogurt container into your lined colander.

  4. Step 4

Place the colander with the container underneath in place in the fridge overnight. It will take about 24 hours for the yogurt to reach the desired consistency (about the same as softened cream cheese).

  5. Step 5

Remove the cheese from the colander and place in another container. If you wish to add herbs, honey, or any other flavoring, add that now and mix thoroughly.

  6. Step 6

Spread over bagels, crackers, or anything else on which you would normally use cream cheese. Enjoy!
