How to Measure a Hand for a Baseball Glove
It is important to consider age when measuring your hand for a baseball glove.

- A flexible tape measure or a piece of string which can then be measured.

Fielders gloves and first base mitts are measured by starting at the top of the index finger of the glove down the finger along the inside of the pocket and then out to the heal of the glove.

Measure from the index finger and follow it down over the palm, to the inside edge of the glove.

Larger gloves which measure between 12 and 12-1/2" are usually for the outfield while those an inch or so shorter are usually infielders'.

Youth baseball gloves are usually designed with smaller finger and wrist openings to fit smaller hands, and often have larger pockets to aid youngsters learning how to catch.

Select a glove for the position you will be playing most often. A glove should feel fairly snug when adjusted. Check to make sure the glove adjusts to your hand.

While there are numerous synthetic materials which gloves are made from, the finest and most durable are usually made of leather. Leather 'breaks-in' and becomes more flexible with use.

The more you play catch with your new glove the quicker it will break-in.
Apply a small amount of Glove Oil to the glove
Avoid the temptation to buy a glove that is to "large" for the person using it with the thought in mind "they will grow into it".
Don't wrap a ball in it and soak it in water as leather tends to tighten and shrink when it gets wet.
