Things You'll Need:
- bamboo chutes
- transparent jar, flower pot, or glass
- stones, pebbles, or marbles
- water
-
Step 1
Buy a healthy bamboo chute. Bamboo will grow its own new roots, so you just need to make sure you choose a chute that's a healthy shade of light green - neither yellow nor dark green.
-
Step 2
Choose an interesting transparent container to keep your bamboo. That way you can see the roots! I like to use a transparent glass, small pot, or jar for my bamboo plants. Choose a container that's an appropriate size and shape for your chute.
-
Step 3
To keep the bamboo standing up, add pebbles, glass marbles, or stones to the container. You can get creative and combine with the design of your home!
-
Step 4
Make sure that your bamboo is kept with 2-3 inches of the stem submerged in water. Unlike some other plants, bamboo likes to take root in a few inches of water constantly in order to grow and be healthy. You cannot over water bamboo! Refill the water as necessary to keep it at this level.
-
Step 5
Find a home in your home for the bamboo plant. Bamboo likes filtered sunlight, not direct sunlight. I like to keep bamboo in my bathroom, which doesn't get a lot of light.
-
Step 6
Keep tabs on your bamboo plant. If it starts to wilt, move it to a place with more light. Make sure the water level is high enough. And lastly, enjoy your bamboo!

on 1/28/2009 I love Bamboo. I have yet to get my own plant, but I want one. The Chinese believe it is lucky to have it in your house. Another good reason to get some!
