Things You'll Need:
- Blank CD
- Music CDs or digital music files
- Computer
- Blank paper
- Scissors
- Ingredients for your loved one's favorite meal
-
Step 1
MAKE A CD: Yes, I know that making a CD harkens back to the good ‘old days of “making a mix tape” for your crush. But, it’s fun and enables you to express your feelings through song (without having to sing). Search through your CD or online music collection for songs that correspond to your feelings, that are meaningful for you and that bring back memories for the two of you. If you’re creative, you can create your own CD cover and liner notes. Your Valentine will certainly appreciate the thought you’ve put into this personalized CD, which shouldn’t cost you more than the price of a blank CD.
-
Step 2
CREATE A PHOTO BOOK: One way to say “I love you” on Valentine’s Day without spending a lot of money is to make a personalized photo book for your Valentine. The book can either focus on a theme such as “Why I love you on Valentine’s Day,” “A trip down memory lane for Valentine’s Day” or it can just be a collection of your favorite images. I like to create photo books by inserting digital images of my pictures into Powerpoint, then adding creative captions. You can also use hard copy photos and insert into photo sleeves or, depending on your level of creativity, create a low-cost scrapbook by gluing the pictures onto paper and inserting into a binder.
-
Step 3
COOK FOR YOUR VALENTINE: Who doesn’t appreciate a home-cooked meal, especially if you make your Valentine’s favorite dish? Eating at home saves money over eating in a restaurant, and it can be just as romantic. Light some candles to set the mood, use your good dishes, open a bottle of wine and enjoy a home-cooked meal…without the crowds and inflated prices of a restaurant.
-
Step 4
MAKE YOUR SWEETHEART A COUPON BOOK: Another creative and cost-saving idea for a Valentine’s Day gift is to make a coupon book for your sweetheart. You can do this on your computer or by hand, whichever you prefer. Include coupons for romantic gestures, chores around the house, favors…or whatever else might be meaningful to your Valentine. Or, if you prefer to give your Valentine a free, pre-made coupon book, there is one available for download on my website: www.stopandkisscardgame.com.
