Rate: (5 Ratings)

Online selling is a great way to expose your car to the market, but you still need to show the car, price the car and complete the DMV paperwork.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer And Network Support
  • Credit Cards And Loans

Step1
Decide whether you want to use the Internet as just a billboard or if you want to use an auction site such as eBay.
Step2
Determine the car's sale price.
Step3
Write a description of the car. The description should read like a regular classified ad. Be sure to include your location, a telephone number and an e-mail address.
Step4
Find a local billboard or auction site.
Step5
Register and pay a fee as necessary.
Step6
Post your ad.
Step7
Post any photographs.
Step8
Respond to inquiries as normal. Show the car, answer questions, and negotiate a price in person and away from the computer, if possible.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be specific in your ad, using keywords that search engines can find.
  • If dealing with people outside your area, make clear that it is the buyer's responsibility to come get the car or arrange for its delivery.
  • Using an auction site as a billboard is often effective, but has potential pitfalls. Among them is the possibility that you will get a negative rating on the auction site. Also, auction sites are, in part, operating on the good faith of those involved. Breaking that trust will, ultimately, undermine your ability to sell or even advertise your car there.
