Working from home is a dream for many people. Yet often the idea of working in an atmosphere where laundry is not done and children's toys are not put away can scare people away from starting a new career. The guide below will help you create a home office atmosphere that will make you feel both cozy and productive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Desk (with ample space)
  • File cabinet
  • Bookshelf
  • Window treatment (if you have a window)
  • Colored desk supplies
  • Picture frames
  • Wall hangings
  • Lamps
  1. Step 1

Find space somewhere in your home for a small desk, a bookshelf, a file cabinet, a lamp and a chair. Sometimes an entire room is available, sometimes only a closet.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the desk so you are not facing a wall. Have your back to the wall so you can see when people approach. Place the file cabinet close to or under your desk for easy access.

  3. Step 3

Instead of flat against the wall, put the bookshelf at an angle in the corner closest to the desk. This will bring depth to the room.

  4. Step 4

If there is a window in the room, cover it with an attractive or colorful window treatment. A valance or shade that lets in some light is ideal.

  5. Step 5

Spruce up the room with colorful accessories. Books, picture frames, wall hangings, plants and small desk lamps are good possibilities.
