Things You'll Need:
- the toy
- warm water with mild dishsoap (dawn, joy etc.)
- vinegar (white) and/or
- any other mild cleaners that will be diluted. ie: fantastic etc. and/or
- bleach and/or
- wash cloth or rag
- drying cloth or rag
- soft toothbrush
- hard toothbrush
- toothpicks
- scrub brush (soft)
-
Step 1
To clean a vintage toy, use a damp cloth or rag and wash the vintage toy with a mix of warm water and dish soap (half and half). Wash the vintage toy as you would wash a dirty kid,,,,of course not hard enough to take the kids skin off, just enough to see if this simple solution cleans the vintage toy without damaging it, yet get it clean. If this simple solution does not clean the vintage toy see the next step.
-
Step 2
Next, take the vintage toy and use the soft tooth brush to get into the groves and a toothpic for the edgelike grooves. If the toy seems as though it can withstand the hard toothbrush you may use that if the soft doesn't work. On the larger part of the toy, you can use a very soft hand brush if needed.

Step 3
If the simple solution of water and soap does not work to clean your vintage toy, it is time to use the tougher stuff....
First try white vinegar. Put on your cloth and rub a dub the vintage toy in a part where it doesn't show as much in case it is too strong. Not working? Now try your cleaner diluted with water (half and half). Apply to your cloth and rub a dub dub again. Not working? Try it straight without the water. Not working still? Now the killer stuff...mix bleach with water (half and half). Again, put on your cloth and clean your vintage toy. If that doesn't work throw the thing away or give it to someone you don't like.

on 2/22/2009 Too funny. I like the part about giving the impossible to clean toy to someone you don't like.
