Things You'll Need:
- 1 - 4 inch clay pot
- floral dry foam
- recycled popsicle sticks or craft sticks
- clear tape
- double stick tape or poster tape
- 20 chocolate candy hearts, wrapped in foil wrappers
- pink and red tissue paper
- scissors
- optional: ribbon, gift tag, decoupage or glue, clear cellophane
-
Step 1
If you are going to glue or decoupage anything onto your flower pot, do this first before anything else. To decoupage a ribbon onto the flower pot, brush a thin coat of decoupage to the backside of the ribbon. Use a foam brush to apply. Brush a second coat over the outside of the ribbon.
You can tie a ribbon around it, adhere stickers, and/or glue on sequins, plastic gems or other small craft supplies.
Let your added items dry completely before continuing. -
Step 2
Cut 10 - 2 x 8 inch strips of pink and red tissue paper each. You will have twenty when finished. Set them aside.
-
Step 3
Cut a very small piece of double stick tape, just wide enough to cover the top of the popsicle stick. Adhere it to one end, and peel off the top paper. Double sided poster tape is often sold on dispensers similar to clear tape dispensers, and found in the office supply section of your retail stores.
-
Step 4
Press a chocolate candy heart to the tape.
-
Step 5
Wrap the tissue paper around the top of each stick, allowing the chocolate heart to show. Gather at the bottom as you wrap it around and secure by wrapping a piece of clear tape all around the tissue paper base.
-
Step 6
Cut a piece of floral dry foam to fit inside the bottom of the clay pot. Gently press it into the pot. Gently press your flower sticks into the dry foam to secure your heart flowers. Be careful to position once, dry foam will hold the impressions and make it difficult to reposition later.
-
Step 7
OPTIONAL: To make an easy gift card, cut a 1 1/2 x 3 inch piece of index card or card stock. Punch the bottom with a one punch heart shaped hole punch. Decorate with stickers, markers, colored pencils, plastic gems or what you have on hand. Glue your card to the top of a popsicle stick at an angle. Let dry. Gently insert the stick into the flower pot.
Save money and time, and make gifts yourself. By having your child, the student, help with the project, they are learning more than showing appreciation. Crafts can be used as a teaching tool as well.
OPTIONAL: Wrap the finished flower pot with clear cellophane, gather at the top and secure by tying with yarn, ribbon, or thin cut strip of leftover material.
OPTIONAL: Visit your local florist and purchase a plastic floral gift card stick, and gift card.
