Find Out If I'm Registered To Vote In Ohio

Ohio has some notoriety for it's voter registration problems. In the past election, Ohio laws were constantly being challenged to their validity, and many registered voters may have been kicked from the rolls. This step-by-step guide should help you find out if you're registered to vote in Ohio.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An Internet connection
  • An email address
  • 30 minutes of spare time
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

Go to http://www.sos.state.oh.us/SOS/voter/RegisteringToVote.aspx in a separate window. If you have a printer, find the "Download in PDF" link. Alternatively, you can select the "Request a form" link to have the State of Ohio mail you the form. Without a printer, this is probably the easiest way to register.

  2. Step 2

A voter registration form will open up (Adobe Reader is needed). The form has the great feature of allowing you to fill it out on your computer. This makes sure that no errors in writing occur. You will need to sign it with your signature, though.

  3. Step 3

Double and triple check for errors in your typing. If there are any errors when you turn it in, it may cause the State to deny your voter registration. Better to use another few minutes to make sure that doesn't happen.

  4. Step 4

Print out the registration form. Find out where to mail it at http://www.sos.state.oh.us or by calling 1-877-767-6446. Also, make sure it has proper postage on it.

  5. Step 5

Don't forget to include any required paperwork!! If you don't have a Social Security Number or Ohio Drivers License, you'll need to include a copy of a government-issued photo ID card.

  6. Step 6

Await a reply by mail that you are registered to vote. Your voter registration card will be inside. Keep your card safe, as it a lot of useful information pertaining to your district for voting.

  7. Step 7

VOTE!! Registering is great, but you also have to go out and vote. The only way we can make our world a better place is by stepping up and supporting our government become a government by the people and for the people.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you get on the phone, be respectful! You might be frustrated, but if you let them have a pleasant time, they'll respond far more nicely to you.
  • Don't forget to include a political party if you want to.
  • Get your family and friends to register to vote in Ohio as well!!
  • NEVER try to mail in a false voter registration. That is a felony and will be prosecuted
  • NEVER purposely enter false information about yourself on a voter registration form. That is also highly illegal.
