Step 1
What is your brand? What does your blog represent? If you are not sure, you may be all over the place with your blog. You want to market your blog with a brand, just like Coca-Cola markets with their brand. Decide what you want to be and how you are going to market it. You don't want to be talking about your Grandma Lucy one day and then how you researched SEO the next, and then on to cool keywords you found.
-
Step 2
How to you want to be known on the internet? Are you a teacher or a leader, to you want to encourage people or make them laugh? How do you want you want to come across? What kind of audience do you want to draw? For example, you can write on Ghost Hunting and be humorous and tell it from the angle of how you dropped your camera and ran when you saw a shadow or write seriously and and share your statistics and experience with the data you collected. Whichever it is, pick just one. Don't have a Jekyll and Hyde personality on your blog where you are funny one day and preaching the next. Know who you are and what you represent.
-
Step 3
Once you have your focus then you will want to connect with others that share and compliment your blog. Seek out professionals in your blog field of choice and connect with them.
-
Step 4
Stand for something, but no matter what, don't loose your temper and don't post scathing blogs, unless that's your brand. These things can come back to haunt you later on after you have proven yourself as an expert. You don't want to be knocked down a notch by your peers from an old post that you thought had been long forgotten.
-
Step 5
Your brand, should be your face. Avatar's can be entertaining and some are downright cute, but to really come across as a professional in your field, you must show your face.
-
Step 6
As you gather more attention, blog about it. It is alright to announce your accomplishments on your blog and can actually prove your success. So, next time you get your 100th subscriber or interviewed by the press. Let everyone know.
