With the Super Bowl a few weeks away, why not use sports to teach about a few math topics. Its always good to get away from the text for a change.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ticket prices
  • roman numerals worksheet
  • coloring sheet of each teams helmet
  1. Step 1

Roman Numerals - teach the students about roman numerals. You can have them create roman numerals out of toothpicks, give them a worksheet where they need to figure out the number. Be sure to teach concept of putting a symbol in front of the other and so on.

  2. Step 2

Make a prediction chart. Students color the helmet of the team they pick to win the game. Cut out and paste on wall outside of room. Have the students predict a final score of the game and give a prize to the closest.

  3. Step 3

Estimation - estimate how much money will be spent on tickets, soda, or food at the game. Or estimate what the attendence will be by giving a number of seats for one section of the stadium.

  4. Step 4

Geography- discuss where the two teams are coming from and where they are going to play.
