Things You'll Need:
- First you will need your Drowsy Doll
- ½ yard flannel material of your choice
- EcoSnow or Soft Touch Polyfill
- 1 yard ½ inche pre ruffles eyelet edging
- thread
- scissors
- sewing machine
- Beacon Fabric Tack or Barge Cement
- 1 small grommet
- Split ring
- Pins
-
Step 1
Remove the head and hands. You will have to snip any threads using whatever tool you will be comfortable using. I used a very fine hook bill Xacto and tweezer. Undoing the threads will allow you to remove the head without damage. Snip showing stitches and remove with tweezer.
-
Step 2
Wash the head and hands. Using shampoo or moisturizing liquid wash the head and hands . Use a soft toothbrush to get the deep in grime. You may have to wash twice.
Towel dry and if you have it rub some baby powder into the very dry surface. Then buff off with towel excess. Do this to the head and hands.
Set aside -
Step 3
Now we have the body. Remove the stuffing and the voice box. You will see you will have to remove the O ring.. Use a pair of pliers and remove the O ring by breaking it.
Once removed insert a dowel or Split ring into its place and set aside.
You will need to order the replacement doll body pattern by Julia Sherman. It's only 5 dollars but it's taken from the original pattern! This is a snail mail pattern only and comes with a smaller all cloth-doll and typed instructions. -
Step 4
Cut 1 upper back, 1 lower back, 1 body front and two sleeves. Sew pieces according to pattern instructions.
Make body, make arms, set hands into arms and set arms into the neck of the body. Sew ruffle around the neck. -
Step 5
Fill body up to hip. L Punch a small hole on the side and insert and set the small grommet. I prefer sewing a buttonhole stitch and reinforcing with glue instead. Insert the pull string through the hole and pack fill around the voice box.
Continue to fill and make sure it doesn't shift. -
Step 6
Now get a split ring and slide into place where the white ring used to be. There are plastic split rings available. Just glue the ends together after sliding onto the old loop.
To set the head in you are going to need a very long doll maker's needle and double strand of button thread. -
Step 7
You may need to use a flashlight to see the pre existing holes. As you will be going back into those already existing holes to secure the head in place. Start at Back and push through to back hole, then come back through the next hole on the back and push that into a side hole. Criss-crossing on the inside. Then apply a bead of glue around the neck and press fabric close to the neck of the head. Dry completely and your doll is done!
