The NFL football season is over. What's an NFL football fan to do? After months of football games, parties, water cooler wrap-ups and arm-chair quarterbacking, some fans are at a loss for what to do between seasons. Here are some ideas to help you help your NFL football fan make it through the off season.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Recognize what your NFL football fan is missing. I love football, but I know it's "just a game". For some fans, however, it's much more than that. When the NFL football season ends, it takes with it a large part of their social lives, small talk fodder, and sense of community.

  2. Step 2

Find substitutions. You can't make the NFL play football all year long (darn!) but you can probably replace some of the other things that football fans are missing. Give them another reason to gather, something they can talk about with friends and follow from week to week. Being an NFL football fan is about being part of a community in support of the good guys, whomever that may be, depending on where you live. Some fans transition easily from NFL season to MLB season, but others may need a different diversion.

  3. Step 3

Keep the same weekly schedule as NFL football. It's very important to maintain the ritual of the gathering. Fortunately, most people, even die-hard NFL football fans, are perfectly happy to enjoy cookouts during the off season. After all, it's good training for next season's tailgate parties. If your fan is more flexible, this is the time of year to try new things on the weekend.

  4. Step 4

Start hyping the new NFL football season in July. Exhibition games start in August, so NFL fans can start speculating and discussing the new season in July. This can actually be fun for everyone, since there are no big holidays between Independence Day and Labor Day anyway.

  5. Step 5

Subscribe to the NFL Network. For the fan who can never get enough, the NFL Network (see link below) is all about football around the clock, 365 days a year. If the fan's addiction it truly to the game itself, this channel can feed that need. Most fans, however, long for the NFL football experience throughout the year, not just the game itself. So support your NFL fan in his time of need with the previous steps first, and you'll most likely have more time together and a happier off season fan.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your NFL football fan busy doing other fun, social activites.
  • Be patient, and try to relate what your NFL football fan is going through to your own experience, perhaps the completion of a long project, or the season finale of your own favorite show.
  • A serious addiction, affecting other areas of a fan's life, requires medical care. When in doubt, seek medical help.
