Get Over a Bad Haircut

At one time or another we’ve all been there. The not so flattering haircut that makes you just want to hide from the world, and avoid all human contact until your hair grows back. The bad news is that you’re stuck with this haircut for the next few months. The good news is that nowadays there are tons of trendy hair accessories, hats, and alternatives to make even the worst haircut look cute. Read on for some sweet, easy solutions to dress up a bad haircut.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • patience
  • creativity
  • an open mind
  • hair accessories
  • hat
  • hair product
  • curling iron/straightener
  1. Step 1

First and foremost relax. Keep in mind that it’s just hair, it will grow back. Be thankful that you at least have hair to begin with and are fortunate enough to have the freedom and means to change your hairstyle as you please in the first place.

Try dying your hair a new color for a fresh look. You can go a few shades lighter or darker for a more subtle, natural look or you can go bold and try a different color altogether. Not sure about dying your whole head? Try high lights around the face to brighten and bring out your features. You’d be surprised what a difference a little hair dye can make.

Shop for a cute hat. There are so many styles of hats out there – beanies, fedoras, cowboy hat, baseball cap, newsboy cap, bucket hat, berets – to name a few. You’re bound to find at least one that looks great on you.

Find some cute clips and hair pins to jazz up your hair. For a new look try parting your hair in a different way, and then pinning it back with some fun clips. In my opinion people with short hair can wear hair clips better than people with longer hair. In longer hair they tend to get lost in the length and bulk of the hair, but in shorter hair they are able to stand out more and pull off a trendier look.

Headbands also can look fantastic with short hair. Choose a bright colored or funky patterned headband for a fun look. There is a great assortment of different types of headbands out there – from polka dotted to leopard print to neon pink to totally blinged out – have fun trying out different looks.

If you usually wear your hair straight down, try curling it with a curling iron or rollers (if your hair’s long enough). And vice versa; if your hair is usually wavy or curly try straightening it with a straightener. Hair too short? Not a problem. There are a ton of styling products like pomade and wax that are meant specifically for styling short hair.

And lastly if you absolutely can’t stand your short hair, try considering getting extensions. You can get them put in professionally at a salon, or you can buy clip in ones that you can situate yourself. Still not so sure? Well consider this – A LOT of celebrities, movie stars, and models use hair extensions on a daily basis. Jessica Simpson even has her own line of fabulous hair pieces and clip in extensions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find some alone time, lock yourself in your bathroom and experiment with different accessories, products and styles. Find what works for you and what doesn’t work for you ahead of time. There’s nothing worse than trying out a new style that doesn’t agree with you, but not having the time to change it, then having to live with it the rest of the day.
  • Check out hairstyling magazines and fashion magazines for some interesting styling ideas.
  • Resist the urge to get another haircut to “fix” the last one. Chances are it will only make it worse. Be patient and let it grow out a few months before getting another haircut.
